I’m Stan Hudy a sportswriter with The Saratogian, Community News and Troy Record for the past two decades covering sports in the New York Capital District, or the 518.
I specialize in prep sports along with youth sports during the non-school year with a large workload in the rowing community throughout New York State, but especially on Fish Creek at Saratoga Lake, home of the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships each spring.
The non-dating profile: Married almost 30 years to the greatest gal who could ever put up with a guy like me, Reda. She’s a sports fan, a local sports fan, UAlbany alum and my biggest fan.
Children: Three, all with four legs — Skinner, the elder statesman and the two ‘boys’, Fenway and Wrigley.
Geography: Former Section IV kids. Reda graduated from Union-Endicott High School and myself, Hancock Central (yes, in New York, not the one in Mass.)
Reda was from one of the biggest schools in Section IV, myself, from one of the smallest.
My primary coverage area has been Southern Saratoga County and Shenendehowa High School for the first 15 years and then with downsizing, was spread out and now, after even more downsizing, I’m the Saratoga County guy. My counterpart in our publications, Joe Boyle, is ‘The Rensselaer County’ guy.
Two men and three papers (four when we add The Pink Sheet in August).
There will be more random thoughts than any pro insight here, my day is filled with local coverage, editing, photos, video and more. Pro sports are in the background, except for the few and I am very proud to have covered the locals playing at the next level. Those I am sure to follow.
That’s enough – Thoughts, story idea, kind comments and only constructive criticism, reach out to me on the contact page.
Thanks for reading.
